We asked Karen Langley, a paramedic and mother of Emily, now nine months old, what she did to get her home ready to welcome her baby. “The best time to think about keeping your baby safe is before you bring your baby home – you have time to think about what you may need and make the changes in stages,” Karen says.

“I started outside my home because many injuries take place there, especially falls and it’s often an overlooked place,” she says. “Our outside stairs can become slippery when it snows and I was afraid of falling while carrying my baby into the house. I had non-skid treads put on the stairs and added lights so I could see each step.”
