Baby-Everywhere has created a unique way for a new mother to organize the baby’s medical history and pediatrician’s instructions, together with advice about preventing injuries, recognizing and responding to all types of emergencies in a quick-read, instant-help format for use at home,
in a car or elsewhere.
To Prevent Burns
• Heated formula from a microwave can become very hot, even when the bottle feels only warm on the outside.
Shake the bottle and test it first very carefully. If the bottle has a liner, a buildup of steam can cause the formula to
explode over the baby.
• Adjust the hot water heater, if possible, to below
120 degrees Fahrenheit (49°C), but test the water before placing the baby in the tub.
• Place guards around heat registers in the walls or floors
and in front of fireplaces and space heaters.

To prevent accidental poisoning
• If you leave the room while using a product that could harm your child, even for an instant, cap and put it away or take it with you.
• Keep vitamins and medicine off night tables, kitchen
counters and table. An overdose of candy-flavored aspirin
or vitamins is a leading cause of poisoning of young children.
• Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or 9-1-1
immediately if you suspect a child has swallowed or inhaled any harmful product. Report what the child has swallowed; and take the container to the phone, if possible.
• If a child is unconscious or in convulsions, follow the steps you are told to take until help arrives.

To prevent choking
• During feeding, hold the baby in your arms instead of
propping the bottle. Check that the nipple opening is not
so large that the milk flows too quickly.
• Give your baby only a few bits of find food at a time.
• Cut meat and chicken across the grain into small slices.
• Keep dry pet food bowls off the floor when not in use.
• Choking hazards: hard candy, hot dogs, raisins, raw apples, raw carrots, uncooked peas and cubed raw vegetables,
stringy foods like celery; white bread, whole grapes, M&M’s, nuts, popcorn, marshmallows, corn kernels, cherries, chunky peanut butter.
